Central Supplier Database (CSD) Registration: Complete Step-by-Step Guide
Registration on the Central Supplier Database (secure.csd.gov.za) is a legal prerequisite to doing business with the South African government, municipalities and state-owned entities.
Updated 2026-10-07 · Always confirm requirements in the official tender pack.
What is the CSD and why is it mandatory?
The National Treasury Central Supplier Database (CSD) maintains a single master database of verified supplier information for all spheres of government in South Africa. Upon successful registration, you are issued a unique Supplier Number (starting with MAAA) and a 36-digit Master Registration Number.
Required documents for CSD registration
Before starting your online registration on the CSD portal, prepare the following verified business records:
- CIPC registration document (CoR 14.3 or CK document).
- South African ID numbers of all directors and shareholders.
- Active SARS income tax reference number and VAT registration number if applicable.
- Bank account confirmation letter (must be verified automatically via bank integration).
- B-BBEE verification details or EME sworn affidavit.
- Industry accreditations where applicable (CIDB, PSIRA, NHBRC, COIDA).
How to keep your CSD profile compliant
Many tender bids fail because the supplier CSD status turns non-compliant before bid evaluation. Ensure your SARS tax pin remains updated, bank account verifications are refreshed annually and director details match your CIPC filings.
