What Is a Compulsory Briefing Session?
A compulsory briefing session is a meeting or site visit that the buyer requires bidders to attend. Missing it may make a bid non-responsive, so suppliers should confirm the rule in the official tender notice.
Updated 2026-09-11 · Always confirm requirements in the official tender pack.
Read the exact attendance rule
The tender notice should say whether the briefing is compulsory, whether a representative may attend, how attendance is recorded and whether questions must be submitted before or during the session.
Prepare before the session
Read the scope, prepare clarification questions and arrive with the tender reference. For a site visit, confirm access requirements, safety rules and the correct venue or online link.
Keep evidence and update your bid plan
Save the attendance certificate, register confirmation, meeting notes and any addenda issued afterwards. If the buyer publishes an addendum, use the latest version when completing your response.
